There is a mental health crisis that is impacting on people of all ages.

 

 

ADULTS

 

In 2022/3 work-related stress, depression or anxiety resulted in the loss of 17.1 million working days.

 

On average each person suffering took 19.6 days off work and they accounted for 49% of all work-related ill health and 54% of all working days lost due to work-related ill health.

 

Research shows:

  • 65% of employees experience at least mild symptoms of anxiety
  • Symptoms of depression have increased 11% since last year
  • 79% of employees experience moderate-to-high stress levels
  • 61% of women reported unhelpful stress at work
  • The number of 16-24 year olds reporting negative stress at work has risen by 50% since 2023
  • 74% of 16-24 year olds experience at least mild symptoms of anxiety
  • 40% of 16-24 year olds report clinically-relevant symptoms of anxiety
  • 35% of employees feel stress that has a negative impact but that they can cope
  • 71% rate their sleep as “average” or worse
  • 1 in 3 rate their sleep as “poor”

CHILDREN

 

According to The Children’s Society (1):

  • 1 in 6 children aged 5-16 are likely to have a mental health problem.
  • In the last three years, the likelihood of young people having a mental health problem has increased by 50%.
  • Of a class of 30 students, 5 are likely to have a mental health problem.
  • 50% of all mental health problems start by the age of 14.
  • 39.2% of 6 to 16-year-olds had experienced a deterioration in mental health since 2017.
  • Nottinghamshire County Council states that 75% of all mental ill health starts before the age of 18 and highlight the importance of “early prevention, resilience, and intervention” (2)
